چکیده

The response of pea (Pisum sativum L., cv. Scinado) plants to low UV-B and UV-C radiation levels was studied in the 2nd leaves in relation to IAA, ABA and ACC contents. Following regimes of UV-B and UV-C radiation were used for 7, 10 or 14 consecutive days: B1 (4.4 kJ m-2 d-1), B2 (13.3 kJ m-2 d-1) and C1 (0.1 kJ m-2 d-1) and C2 (0.3 kJ m-2 d-1). As compared to control, IAA decreased after 10 days of C2 irradiation, although B1 regime caused an increase. At the end of the experiment IAA was raised in C2-treated plants. ABA increased transiently in B1-treated plants (10d B1) but it dropped at the end of the experiment (14d UV) after both UV-B and UV-C irradiations. With one exception (7d B1), ACC accumulated in the treated plants. The increases in IAA and ABA concentrations after 10 days of B1 regime was interpreted in relation to plant adaptation. Moderate accumulation in ACC in C1-and B1-treated plants could also be connected with stimulation of ethylene signal pathway that is needed for the defence system against UV-induced damage.

Growth Regulators Have Rapid Effects on Photosynthate Unloading from Seed Coats of Phaseolus vulgaris L.

Of nine plant growth regulators (indoleacetic acid, 1-naphthalene acetic acid, gibberellic acid, giberellin 4/7, 6-benzylaminopurine, 6-furfurylaminopurine, abscisic acid, and 1-aminocyclopropane carboxylic acid) tested, only 6-benzylaminopurine and abscisic acid affected (14)C-photosynthate unloading from excised seed coats of Phaseolus vulgaris L. Unloading, in the presence of KCl, was stimul...

The effect of water stress on indoleacetic Acid oxidase in pea plants.

Activity of indoleacetic acid oxidase was shown to increase following a period of water stress. Two fractions of indoleacetic acid oxidase were extracted from plant extracts. Similarly, two protein peaks (determined by ultraviolet absorption) were isolated. One peak, associated with an indoleacetic acid oxidase peak, increased following water stress. The second peak, not associated with extract...

Effects of UV B and UV C radiation on viability, growth, and major natural compounds of Malve neglecta L. cells . Faezeh Ghanati*, Faezeh Khatami, and Ebrahim Bemani

Callus cultures were established in vitro from leaf explants of Malva neglecta and were sub-cultured several times until a rapid-growing cell line was obtained. The calluses were exposed to different doses of ultraviolet (UV) radiation as follows: 0, 432, 864, and 1296 J/m2 for UV B and 0, 612, 1284, and 1836 J/m2 for UV C, corresponding to 0, 30, 60, and 90 min radiations, in tandem. Exposure ...

Auxin-induced ethylene triggers abscisic acid biosynthesis and growth inhibition.

The growth-inhibiting effects of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) at high concentration and the synthetic auxins 7-chloro-3-methyl-8-quinolinecarboxylic acid (quinmerac), 2-methoxy-3,6-dichlorobenzoic acid (dicamba), 4-amino-3,6, 6-trichloropicolinic acid (picloram), and naphthalene acetic acid, were investigated in cleavers (Galium aparine). When plants were root treated with 0.5 mM IAA, shoot epina...

The rhd6 Mutation of Arabidopsis thaliana Alters Root-Hair Initiation through an Auxin- and Ethylene-Associated Process.

Root-hair initiation in Arabidopsis thaliana provides a model for studying cell polarity and its role in plant morphogenesis. Root hairs normally emerge at the apical end of root epidermal cells, implying that these cells are polarized. We have identified a mutant, rhd6, that displays three defects: (a) a reduction in the number of root hairs, (b) an overall basal shift in the site of root-hair...
